TYPES OF SURGICAL ASSISTANTS, AND REQUIREMENTS

  • RNFAs are not reimbursed by Medicare.

  • RNFAs are reimbursed by Medicaid in limited states.

  • The following states have legislation that limits the outcome of denials:

We submit claims for surgical assistant services provided by a RNFA in ALL states regardless of specific legislation in your state.

CERTIFIED SURGICAL ASSISTANTS (NSAA CERTIFIED)

  • CSAs are not reimbursed by Medicare and Medicaid.

  • CSAs may elect to register with the following states for maximum reimbursement. (Click on the specific state for more information and how to register for these certifications.)

SURGICAL ASSISTANTS – CERTIFIED (ASBA CERTIFIED)

  • SA-C providers are not reimbursed by Medicare and Medicaid.

CERTIFIED FIRST ASSISTANTS (NBSTSA CERTIFIED)

  • CSFA providers are not reimbursed by Medicare and Medicaid.

  • CSFA may elect to register with the following states for Maximum (Click on the specific state for more information and how to register for these certifications. We cannot accept providers without them.)

  • Texas (State License)

  • Kentucky (State Certification)

  • Illinois (State Registration)

  • Licensed Surgical Assistants (Texas Medical Board)

  • Licensed Surgical Assistants (LSA) are not reimbursed by Medicare and Medicaid.
